New Homes

Please feel free to leave comments or email about any of the New Home Candidates I've been posting. I'd like to see what other people think of these places. Here is a map showing the locations of the places I'm looking at right now; I haven't visited 2619 Randolph, 2713 Dewitt, or 331 North Patrick yet, but they're on the slate.

Hi, long-time listener first-time caller, I love your blog...

Preface/disclaimer: I don't know the neighborhoods or locations relative to amenities like subway stops etc., so the importance of that aspect is all yours.

Firstly, #1 is out. Too big a decrease in space for too much of an increase in rent. Plus on-street parking.

I like #2 for interiors. I like #4 for the backyard & alley. I like #3 for the building exterior.

In terms of money and space, #2 is beaten handily by #4. Unless a remodeled kitchen is that important to you, it's not nearly as good a value.

Though I really like the looks of #3, you don't really need any more extra space than you already have & want, and the 18% rent hike seems a little hard to stomach. This is for your own good - not this one.

Right now #4 is my front-runner. This is despite the apparently small individual room sizes, and the not-that-cool exterior & paneling in the enclosed porch.

Looking ahead, #5 looks intriguing for the location, though it's a busy thoroughfare. In aerial photos, #7 looks positively pastoral in comparison to the others.

THE MIND IS NOT A VESSEL TO BE FILLED BUT A FIRE TO BE KINDLED
